WINTER BREAK BLOG
An article called Highways closed, flights canceled as winter roars in was posted on CNN. It talked about how the weather has been affecting many flights. Many residents in the United States been stuck in airports because of many flights that they booked for so long have been cancelled. Many people weren’t so happy to have cancelled their vacations or not going to go see their family for the holidays. The airports that were affected the most were like the ones on the East coast like the New Jersey, JFK, AND La Guardia airports. The streets are all icy and many highways were closed until they cleared and they safe for a while. Many people were affected by this like a seventy-year old woman was found dead outside her house in Ohio. In Indiana pipes burst in a college the weather has just affected many areas around the globe especially with all this global warming we don’t know what to expect.

Reading Minute

On CNN they posted an article called 'Saturday Night Live' not funny, N.Y. governor's office says
on how “Saturday Night Live” is going way too far on mocking politicians. This weekend they were portraying the legally blind governor of New York Governor David Paterson. Fred Armisen took part in this he portrayed the New York Governor and Seth Meyers also made an appearance as well. Even though “SNL” is famous for mocking politicians and newsmaker they just went too far. David Paterson is the first legally blind in the U.S Senate and the first black governor of New York. What they did to portray David, Fred was looking the wrong way and walking in front of the camera when it wasn’t his turn to speak. Armisen said in the skit, “come on, I’m a blind man who loves cocaine who was suddenly appointed governor of New York. My life is an actual plot from a Richard Pryor movie.” People found it really offensive especially with people with disabilities. The governor just responded by saying they can find different ways to be funny without being offensive. As you can see many people were offended like the National Federation of the Blind even commented like saying it’s “absolutely wrong”. “SNL” hasn’t responded yet though to CNN’s request for comment. “SNL” should just be careful and not be really offensive.

On CNN I found an interesting article called 4th body found in home hit by jet in San Diego sadly this Monday the Marine Corps jet fell on a house in San Diego and destroyed it completely. Today they found the fourth body and it turned out to be a child. After the crash they were able to find three bodies which turned out to be two adults and an infant and they weren’t planning on finding another body. That wasn’t going to be their final destination they were suppose to land at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar. Even though they had already tested the jet and they recalled that it was having some trouble and they still let it go. There were witnesses to describe the scene, apparently to them it was horrible many things were going and many saw the house being destroyed it was just a huge mess. The Los Angeles Time reported that the pilot ejected moments before the crash and landed in a tree. So now the plane can automatically crash randomly when the pilot is not in control. The crash was just horrible from the start according to Maurice Luque the jet could have wiped out half a dozen homes. IA neighbor said it felt like an earthquake when the jet landed he saw the flames in front of his hose.

On cnn an interesting article called 28 killed in Somalia fighting on Sat December 6, 2008 the article was updated, Journalist Abdinasir Mohamed Guled contributed to the report. This occurred in Mogadishu, Somali this weekend sadly it left twenty-eight dead people. This was such a horrible fight between Islamist militia and according to Mohammed Hagi Ali a lot of people were dead. It was really devastating seeing family members dying and being attack near your home and it all took place on Saturday. Sadly they were attacked by Ethiopian forces on Friday and more people were killed about sixteen residents that‘s what residents recall. This is not the first time Somalia has been attacked Ethiopia they were attacked two years ago. Terrorism is really bad just picturing all those people dying and homes being destroyed parents trying to protect their kids and just having to lose a family member is a horrible feeling. It’s really sad even not knowing them but just picturing this in your mind. Well the best of luck for the people that were affected.

On the Los Angeles Times an article written by Walter Hamilton on December 1, 2008 called Stocks fall sharply on consumer spending worries just to state that the United States has finally hit a recession. Many knew that the United States had already hit a recession even though they haven’t mentioned anything with the economy being so bad a couple months ago. So by now everyone should know for sure that we are in a recession many businesses are falling apart people losing their jobs. Many stores are having serious sale posting on the front of their stores saying fifty percent off to even ninety percent off. This is the way they are trying to save their business even though many aren’t capable to do it. The author of the article just wanted to state the fact that most citizens had already found out. For example stores like Macy’s it sank 14%and J.C Penny lost 13% were just hoping this nightmare will soon be gone.

Blog 5: ‘Twilight’ Leads at U.S. Box Office

Ever since the author Stephanie Meyer started with her hit books starting with Twilight it’s been a huge hit, but now with the movie dropping in this weekend. I read an article on the New York Times called ‘Twilight’ Leads at U.S. Box Office written by Brooks Barnes on November 23, 2008. The movie set their point to selling about 60 million dollars, but it made 70 million dollars. Summit entertainment that sponsored the movie had a huge outcome with the movie. The movie appears Kristen Stewart that plays the role of Bella Swan and Robert Pattinson who plays the role of Edward Cullen. The book is about a girl who is Bella that moves from Phoenix, Arizona to Forks, Washington with her dad. In school she met Edward who she falls deeply in love with Edward, but without her knowing that he is a vampire she starts figuring out towards the end who he really is. I went to go watch the movie and the author proved his point it was hard to get this ticket every theater sold out and the theaters were packed people were sitting in their seats for a couple of hours trying to get good spots. Now with Twilight leaving anxious for the other movie that is set to be filmed soon New Moon many teenage girls can’t wait for the other movie.

I found an interesting article on cnn.com called More than 100 homes burned in California blaze in California there was been many massive fires going on. With all the fires going on in Southern California it has burned over 150 home and 1,500 acres. On Friday they are trying to say that there was been only one death. People are losing their homes and these fires are devastating people’s lives now people have no homes and lost almost everything they had. Some fires are taking place in Santa Barbara County and many mansions have been burned down and 5,500 people had to be evacuated. Sadly a 98-year-old man that had to be evacuated from the Santa Barbara Deputy died when they took him to a hotel they aren’t sure what caused his death if it was his condition or that he was evacuated. The fire has threatened the power supply which is a bad thing. The winds have contributed to the cause of the fire spreading around. Some firefighters received several burns and they been trying to calm down the fires form day to night. We have to thank them for what they have done and trying to save peoples lives.

Blog#2:Biden's mother-in-law dies

Biden’s mother-in-law sadly died so he canceled the election banquets he had on Monday and Tuesday. This article is called Biden's mother-in-law dies written by Alexander Marquardt on October 5, 2008. This has just been hard because the election was just over and theses and Obama’s grandmother died which seems very sad for over vice-president and our president. Biden just doesn’t want anyone to be invading their privacy and trying to get into his business right now since it practically doesn’t involve people business since it’s nothing political. He would just appreciate for people to respect there family in not interfering into their business. Even though they knew her situation where she was ill they weren’t expecting for this to occur this soon. The doctor only requested for them to be by her side and not leave her unattended on this hard days for her. This was just a big hit for the vice president.

Blog #1:Russia: Fire system caused 20 sub deaths

This article is called Russia: Fire system caused 20 sub deaths which talks about a Russian Nuclear Submarine that killed twenty people and twenty-one people were seriously injured. This occurred on Saturday when a test run was occurring in the Sea of Japan. This was caused by a malfunctioning in the fire safety in which it spread chemicals. This was the worst accident since the other nuclear submarine accident which sank and killed all one-hundred and eight crews which that’s really devastating. In this submarine accident there were two-hundred and eight passengers and eighty-one of them were soldiers that were boarding. The problem with these situations is the chemicals with this type of experiments. Even though with the damage it didn’t affect the nuclear reactor, but it was still able to get to shore and arrived to its destination. The article didn’t introduce an author, but it just stated the things that our world is passing through.

As everyone knows Election Day is around the corner in two weeks. This Election will basically mark history. People are hoping the person they are looking forward will win, but there only can be one president. Many people are endorsing their favorite. This article is called Donation Record as Colin Powell Endorses Obama by Jeff Zeleny. On Sunday the former Secretary of State Colin L. Powell decided to endorse Senator Barack Obama. Colin Powell is a republican that directed the first Iraq War. Barack Obama decided to visit the states that George W. Bush won which are Colorado, Ohio, Florida, Nevada, Iowa, Virginia, and New Mexico. Mc Cain is trying so much to expand his electoral map as much as his protecting his states you will never know anything unexpected can occur. The weird part of this situation is that Colin Powell is a very good friend of Mc Cain and Powell has helped him a lot through his campaign by donating money to the campaign. Powell called Obama a “transformational figure” on the news in NBC. Will just have to see till next year for our new president. The author of the article point was just to prove with the election so close you won’t know what will you expect and you will have to see.

There was this interesting article called Gas prices sinking toward $2.90 mark By Ben Rooney a staff writer on CNNMoney.com written on October 20, 2008. Like everyone knows our economy is one of our main concerns besides the Iraq War and other things that are going on our country. Well a great thing that happened in the economy that concerned many consumers was gas. Either way with gas being so high people had to find a way to save trips, carpool, and bike, use public transportation, or just spend big bills to fill up your tank. From July gas was $4.11 and now gas is around $2.90 that means gas went down thirty percent. Right now Alaska has the highest gas price of $3.88 and Oklahoma with the cheapest gas of $2.48.Hopefully gas stays like this for quite a while and people should consider filling up there tanks while supplies last. The author just proved a point to describe the economy right now with gas prices and supplies. Also to advice this great opportunity to help consumers save a couple of dollars.

This weekend on the news there was a story about a kid that was kidnapped in Nevada. The article is called Kidnapped boy's grandfather arrested in Riverside by Anna Gorman and Ashley Powers on the Los Angeles Time Newspaper. Sadly the boy was kidnapped on Wednesday in Las Vegas. The boys name is Cole Puffinburger age six. Cole’s Grandfather Clemons Fred Tinnemeyer was captured and arrested on Friday night in Riverside. Sadly the boy wasn’t found but the news is perhaps the boy was kidnapped by two or three Hispanic men dressed as police officers. The problem was probably because Cole’s grandfather stole millions from Hispanic meth dealers. They captured the boy by tying up the little boy’s mom and boyfriend. Sadly they got away and they are still looking for the little boy and are starting to get to the bottom of this. Right now the only thing is to try and keep hope and hopefully the boy will be found soon.

The wildfires in California are devastating many residents. The article is called 1 killed in Los Angeles-area wildfire I found it on CNN. It’s really sad with this going on many residents are losing their homes practically everything they have. What the firefighters are requesting the residents to do is to flee the area. The fire started on October 13, 2008 early Monday in Los Angeles which burned 3,500 acres of the Angles National Forest and with the help of the Santa Ana winds it even made it worst. Unfortunately one person was killed and they are guessing it was a man which they weren’t able to figure out anything about him but they say perhaps he was a homeless person. This wild fires are really dangerous and are hurting many residents in California many are losing there houses completely too losing loved ones. They won’t be gone with the dry area and wind. The author proved the point to warn people about these wildfires and how they are hurting residents. He proved his point right especially since I’m from California and I know how harmful they were even though it never affected my area but I understand those people how they feel.

I read a really interesting article talking about how kids react towards artificial food. The article is called Do food dyes affect kids' behavior? by Robert Lachman on the Los Angeles Times Newspaper. Many parents talked about how there kids react once they feed them with food with a lot of sugar how there are really hyper. Studies say that kids react towards this with artificial food coloring. Many scientists and physiologists aren’t sure this is the cause. Many scientists are trying to find the conclusion to this cause. Even though many parents know that there kids are always acting hyper. Scientists and even parents are trying to get to the bottom of this if artificial food coloring is one of the causes for there kids reactions. Now they are asking the FDA department to list on the products with food coloring on to say that this product contains food coloring in it. For now they are trying to test this to make sure if this is one of the causes for the reactions of there kids. Even though they found out about this causes in 1970’s after an author published a book called “Why Your Child is Hyperactive” by Dr. Ben Feingold. They tried to get to the bottom of this so parents haven’t been able to figure out.

I read an article that talked about our economy how bad it’s right now. The article is called Fear fall: Dow sinks 508 points written by Tim Paradis, an Associated Press for the Star Tribune of Minnesota on October 7, 2008. Like everyone knows already our economy is doing every poorly. Sadly the Dow Jones on Wall Street in New York City went done to eight hundred seventy-five points and are very worried how much we can take. Many people fear the economy right now with prices increasing, people losing their jobs and not being able to support their family with one week of pay check. Many residents are losing their jobs because companies are able to pay every worker. They are even losing their houses because they aren’t able to pay their house payments. People are just scared of what, may happen and trying to prepare for the worst. Many are scared of buying things and are starting to learn the value of the dollar. They haven’t experienced this since five years ago on September 30, 2008. The Stock exchange is just hoping for it not to get any worst but they won’t be sure about it. With this economy right now people are just trying to save their money, not even a bank should be trusted. For example the Washington Mutual bank is one of them they just went down so badly. Basically the point that the author is trying to prove this economy is just hurting us and there’s more to expect from it.

The school district of San Juan Capistrano banned the series of vampire books. This seemed like an interesting article by SCOTT MARTINDALE. The article is called School district briefly bans vampire books from middle schools it was posted on The Orange County Register. The book was removed only for four days. The reason they tried to ban it because they said it wasn’t appropriate for junior high school. What disturbed them was the content on the book about teenage love it was just to mature for their age. The librarians found out about this situation by e-mail to remove the books. If they decide to remove the book and in order to get these books back they need to go through a long process to see if the books will be remove or not. The book is generally about a seventeen year old girl that ends up falling in love with a vampire without her even knowing that he’s a vampire. The book has been very popular more through teenagers and has sold about then million copies. There’s also a list of books that has been trying to be remove from schools from the United States and other school districts that has been trying to remove their own individual books. The point that they are trying to do here is try to prevent from teaching this entire adult context to students. When really at a certain age like eight graders or even the first year of junior high school students already think through their actions. When they read this type of books they won’t really do this type of actions that happen in the book.

I read and article called Apple Shares Plunge on Consumer Spending Fears on the Los Angeles Time newspaper By Michelle Quinn a Los Angeles Times Staff Writer written on September 30, 2008. It talked a lot about how much money they are losing because of our economy. Right now Apple is not going very well few consumers are buying there products. If our economy stays like this many more people will lose their jobs. The prices aren’t looking very good either they keep sky rocketing. That just makes consumers not want to purchase things right now because of the prices. Many families are having difficulties with just trying to support there family and it’s hard for them with food, housing, clothing, school materials for their kids. “Apple's decline, which came after two brokerage firms downgraded their ratings on the stock, knocked $20 billion off the Cupertino, Calif., company's market value. Its shares reached a 52-week low of $100.59 and closed at $105.26, down $22.98.”(Michelle Quinn). The meaning of this article is to explain the things that every business is going through and it won’t get any better. Our economy is hurting very citizen in this country and we have to prepare for the worst.

An article I have read recently was on The Orange County Post. The article’s tile is Hispanics overwhelmingly support Obama survey finds by Jonathan Randles on September 18th, 2008, 12:23 pm. Basically what this article is trying to say Hispanics are trying to look at the outcome of this election with Obama it will be better then with Mc Cain. Obama will provide more welfare for them. A main idea is not by just hearing what you want to hear doesn’t mean you will receive what your expecting. This election seems very interesting because everyone has there own opinions and what some changes to this countries. By reading the article it mention that 55% of Hispanics go for Obama, 11% of Hispanics think Mc Cain is better, and 44% there is no difference between both candidates. The author didn’t really prove the thesis he is just stating the facts on the percentage of how many people go for which candidate. I agree with what he said because what I have been hearing is more people going for Obama because not a lot of people are taking chances on election Mc Cain. I like the piece except the comments on the article seemed offensive.

Codi & Hallie

Codi and Hallie have some similarities and some differences. Codi is more lost, afraid, curious, forgetful, and caring. Hallie is more selfless, adventurous, attractive, and sensitive. Codi and Hallie are both smart and caring.

Codi is lost she doesn’t really know where she’s going and doesn’t know a lot about her past. Also about she didn’t know that her dad knew what she did about her miscarriage pregnancy and then she started telling her dad and he knew already. She is curious about her past trying to find out about herself and finding out more about her mom’s death.

Hallie is adventurous she left her family and went on with her life. She is sensitive, but at times she can be selfless. One other thing is that she is attractive and any guy that is with Codi basically prefers Hallie and that’s one thing that bugs Codi.

Hallie and Codi are both caring and smart. Codi shows that she is caring by saving the puppy. One thing that she did that shows that she is caring is that she left Homero and he has Alzheimer, but she came back since his in need of help. He forgets things as time goes by. They both remember there memories when they were younger Hallie reminded Codi saying “remember we found those abandoned coyote pups, and the river was flooding”. Codi is caring she really loves her sister even though people think Hallie is better than Codi and she really doesn’t like that. They both have their differences and similarities, but they still care about each other.

Adjective Paragraph

SHY
There are many things that can describe me, but one that completely describes me is shy. I'm a very shy person I'm not really that talkative. I'm those people that easily get embarrassed and nervous. In class I don't really try to raise my hand to respond to the teacher because I'm not sure if I'm right or wrong. I especially dislike when teachers put me on the spot by asking me a question when I don't even know the answer. I get this feeling that the teacher is about to pick on me since I haven't said anything in the whole class period then that's when I really get nervous my heart starts beating faster and I feel like it's about to rip out of my chest. When people talk to me I try my best to let the conversation keep on going, but I guess it really doesn't work out for me. Many of my friends tell me Gabi say something you're really quiet. Even though I know I'm shy sooner or later I will breakout of my shell and not be as shy as I am right now.
